Mahaweli Development and Environment Ministry Secretary Anura Dissanayake called on Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) Assembly President and Council Chair Dr. Ban Ki-moon at the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Sustainable Development, Yonsei University in Seoul on 17 July. The meeting entailed discussion on Sri Lanka’s commitment to sustainable development and cooperation with the GGGI to mobilise climate finance for climate resilient projects. During discussions, Secretary Dissanayake handed over a personal communication from President Maithripala Sirisena to Dr. Ban Ki-moon, who conveyed his compliments to President Sirisena through Secretary Dissanayake, and looked forward to closer cooperation between Sri Lanka and the GGGI in the future. He also commended President Sirisena’s Blue Green Development Strategy for Sri Lanka, which encourages low emission sustainable development.
Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Manisha Gunasekera, GGGI Deputy Director General Ambassador Jenny Kim and Mahaweli Development and Environment Ministry Independent Consultant Chris Dharmakirti also participated in the meeting. Secretary Dissanayake was in Seoul to participate in the CTCN Regional Forum for National Designated Entities in Asia and the Pacific, held from 15 to 18 July. The GGGI is a treaty-based international, inter-governmental organisation based in the Republic of Korea, dedicated to supporting and promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies.
