The killing of a leading drug dealer Makandure Madush was to prevent him confessing the names of 80 or so politicians who had links to the drug trade in court, an Opposition MP alleged in Parliament yesterday.
“It is not the killing of Madush that is being questioned by people but the manner in which it happened,” NPP MP Vijitha Herath said.
He said that in an interview the slain drug dealer gave to a local radio station from Dubai in January, he claimed he can name many politicians linked by him. “The Police spokesman said that Madush had revealed the names of 80 politicians when he was being questioned. By killing him in this way all the information that could have been revealed in court has gone under,” he said.
He added that this killing is another on a spate of such incidents and should not be allowed to happen again.
