SLFP parliamentarian Nimal Lanza yesterday pledged his support to the Joint Opposition.

He made the official announcement while addressing a media briefing in Negombo yesterday.  Speaking to the Daily FT, MP Lanza said that he had deliberated before deciding to support the Joint Opposition.

“The National Unity Government has failed to keep the promises it made when it was elected to power in 2015. Therefore, I have decided to support the Joint Opposition,” he said.

When questioned as to what role he would play in the upcoming Local Government elections, the Parliamentarian asserted that he would work to defeat the UNP.  “The economy is in shambles, the masses are unhappy with the Government and even parliamentarians are facing problems. This why I have decided to support the Joint Opposition and fight together with the people,”

Lanza resigned from his portfolio as the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs last Tuesday (19). He was elected to Parliament from the Gampaha District in 2015 under the SLFP banner.
