Ambassador-designate of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Pakeer Amza assumed duties at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh on 31 October at a simple ceremony organised by the staff of the Mission.
On arrival at the Mission, the Ambassador-designate and spouse were received by the Head of Chancery Dulmith Waruna.
Following the National Anthem, the Ambassador-designate, spouse and the officials of the Sri Lanka Mission lit the traditional oil lamp. Subsequently the Ambassador assumed duties at his office.
Addressing the staff, Ambassador Amza set out his targets including promotion of tourism, trade, investment and employment opportunities, and further strengthening relations between the two countries.
Ambassador Amza is a member of the Sri Lanka Foreign Service with experience in diplomacy spanning over 27 years of service that include various assignments at the Foreign Ministry and Sri Lanka Missions abroad.
Prior to assuming his current office, he served as Additional Secretary to the Economic Affairs Division of the Foreign Ministry. He has also served as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Turkey with concurrent accreditation to Georgia and Ukraine, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Belgium and Head of Mission to the EU.
He also served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Sri Lanka Embassy in Berlin, Deputy High Commissioner in Chennai and Deputy High Commissioner in London. His diplomatic assignments also include tenures at the Sri Lanka Missions in Singapore and Cairo.
