LAWASIA said yesterday that although it was monitoring the situation in Sri Lanka, no decision had been made with regard to sending a fact-finding team.
It was responding to an FT article on Saturday to the effect that it had resolved to dispatch an urgent fact-finding team.
The final statement of LAWASIA issued by President Christopher Leong is as follows.
The Council of LAWASIA has at its annual Council meeting on 2 November 2018 been briefed by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka on the situation in Sri Lanka. LAWASIA shares the concerns of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka with respect to the current situation in Sri Lanka and likewise urges the various authorities, institutions and parties to uphold the rule of law, good governance and the provisions and spirit of the Constitution of Sri Lanka. LAWASIA echoes the call by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka for all parties concerned to address and resolve the situation and its related issues peacefully and in accordance with the laws of Sri Lanka.
