The Korean Embassy in Sri Lanka is to host the 2019 National Day reception today. It is the second National Day reception since Ambassador Lee Heon assumed his post in the island in January 2018. Ambassador Lee, whose very first post abroad was also in Sri Lanka in the 1990s, came back to the pearl of the Indian Ocean.
Confirming the solid friendship between Korea and Sri Lanka, Ambassador Lee expressed the deepest acondolences to the victims of the senseless terror attacks in April, and presented his respect and faith to brave and resilient Sri Lanka people.
Ambassador Lee reiterated his willingness to boost and upgrade bilateral ties of two countries. Korea and Sri Lanka are situated at the geopolitically important locations in East Asia and South Asia respectively. With familiar Asian culture, Buddhist heritage and complementary economic structure, there is huge potential to be explored, which is mutually beneficial. The on-going labour and development cooperation can also contribute to strengthening the partnership between Korea and Sri Lanka.
Explaining the founding principle of Korea, Ambassador Lee introduced the Korean government’s efforts to bring peace and prosperity to the Korean peninsula and East Asia, and thanked the Government and people of Sri Lanka for supporting Korea on the issue.
