Counsel of the petitioner in the case filed against former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivaad Cabraal for crippling the economy of the country sought time to file counter-objections against the objections filed by the former Governor of the Central Bank.
Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kakunawela allowed the Petitioner Keerthi Tennakoon’s Counsel Maitree Gunaratna PC, time till 17 January to file counter objections against the objections filed by the suspect’s Counsel.
Earlier, Cabraal was released on this case filed by ex-southern province Governor Keerthi Tennakoon who claimed that the former Central Bank Governor is responsible for the country’s economic crises as a result of paying $ 500 million to a sovereign bond that crippled the economy.
However, during the inquiry into the case yesterday no mention was made in open court over the restraining order issued on Cabraal from leaving for overseas without the court’s sanction.
In this case, Cabraal was released on a surety bail of Rs. 10 million, and the court restrained Cabraal from leaving the country until yesterday.
The court had directed both parties to file their objections in court yesterday.
Petitioner Keerthi Tennakoon filed this petition in terms of section 136(1) (a) of the Code of Criminal Procedure Act.
