Junior Bar Committee 2020 Chairman Kuvera De Zoysa P.C. has written to the President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) requesting him to initiate a dialogue in order to allocate suitable hospitals for Attorneys-at-Law affected by COVID-19.
In the letter sent on Friday, De Zoysa said that due to the professional duties of lawyers, there exists a greater risk for this virus spreading and they and their family members getting infected.
“I humbly request that consideration is given to initiating a dialogue with the authorities concerned, especially considering that the Minister of Health is also an Attorney-at-Law, to explore the possibility of allocating suitable hospitals where adequate facilities are available for members who may be affected by the virus, taking into consideration the professional standing of the members of the BASL,” De Zoysa said in the latter.
The letter added that it would indeed “be a meritorious act if we are able to ensure that any Attorney and his/or her/family is taken care of in the event such a person is affected by the virus”.
