Japanese Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Katsutoshi Kawana called on President Maithripala Sirisena at the President’s Residence last week.
Katsutoshi Kawana assured the President that the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force would extend its fullest support to the measures taken for Sri Lanka’s maritime security.
The Admiral agreed with the President’s request for increasing training opportunities for Sri Lanka Navy personnel in Japan.
During the talks, concern was expressed about the need for prevention of drug smuggling. They also agreed to exchange technical knowledge in disaster management.
Sri Lankan Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne was also present at the meeting.
