The National People’s Power (NPP) yesterday called on voters to break the cycle of voting for candidates who have hoodwinked the public for the past 70 years by giving false promises, playing communal politics, and instilling fear to get elected, and instead vote for the candidate with the best polices.

“We have to move away from electing candidates in this manner and elect a person who has solid polices and can truly build this country. The NPP candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake has presented the best policy statement of all the candidates contesting in the Election, and I urge people to vote for him,” JVP MP Vijitha Herath said.
Herath said both the SLPP and the NDP candidates are engaged in trying to undermine each other but have no polices to back up their promises to the people.
“It seems like a competition to choose who the best liar is than to be the best candidate,” Herath told reporters at a press briefing.
He also condemned President Maithripala Sirisena’s decision to pardon the convict in the Royal park murder case and said this seriously undermines the rule of law in the country.
“In the NPP’s manifesto, we have clearly said that the constitutional provisions on presidential pardons will be done away with completely. This kind of power leads to abuse and is a threat to the independence of the Judiciary,” he said.
He also urged voters not to believe the predictions that are being given about who would win based on surveys, saying these were inaccurate and meant to mislead voters.
