The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) South Asia Department Director-General Teruyuki Ito yesterday praised the economic reform measures taken by the Government.
He made these remarks during a meeting held with State Finance Minister Shehan Semasinghe yesterday.
During the meeting, it was discussed at length the economic reforms taken by the Government to overcome the difficult financial situation.
JICA South Asia Department Director-General said that Sri Lanka's economic reform program is progressing positively.
He also assured support for the future through the JICA programs.
State Minister Semasinghe said that the reforms that should have been taken many years ago are now being carried out step by step.
He also commented on the displeasure of the people for introducing reforms that should have been phased out over time, adding that the people are adapting to these reforms even though it is difficult for them.
Semasinghe however said that the people have their trust in the economic stability of the country through the support of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Deputy Treasury Secretary R.M.P. Ratnayake, Department of External Resources Director-General Ajith Abeysekara, Additional Director-General Sampath Manthrinayake, JICA Chief Representative Lanka Office Tetsuya Yamada, JICA Senior Representative Yuri Ide and JICA representative Takafumi Sakurazawa also participated in this discussion.
