International Conference on Applied Psychology begins in Colombo

dfcvxThe opening ceremony of the fourth International Conference on Applied psychology was held yesterday under the patronage of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratna in Colombo.

The conference will be held until 27 August with the participation of representatives from 15 countries.

Dr. Senaratna addressing the gathering said that the conference is important as decisions will be taken on the issues of and reasons for mental illnesses. He said that the Ministry has taken a decision to appoint 25 specialist psychiatric consultants for the 25 districts.  

It is important that doctors who treat mentally ill patients gather together. 

The 30-year war and tsunami are reasons for Sri Lankans to feel mentally stressed. Therefore solving mental issues is important as a nation.

Renowned US based psychologist Prof. Martin Seligman is also in Sri Lanka to attend the conference.
