IGP Pujith Jayasundara has ordered an investigation to probe the DIG of the Terrorism Investigation Division, Nalaka De Silva, concerning allegations of corruption made against the latter by a civil society.
The IGP called for the investigation following a press conference held by the Anti-Corruption Front organisation, which claimed that DIG De Silva had a corruption officer who was looking to climb the ladder using unethical means. The Anti-Corruption Front presented audio recordings of phone calls between the organisation and DIG De Silva, in which DIG De Silva speaks of tarnishing the reputation of the Senior DIG heading the Special Task Force, M.R. Latheef. Police Media Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara told the Daily FT that IGP Jayasundara had instructed the Police Special Investigations Unit (SIU) to conduct the inquiry. (SG)
