House informed of MP Salman’s resignation

The resignation of United National Party national list lawmaker M.H.M. Salman has created a vacuum in the House. 

Even though Salman was not a member of the UNP his name was included on the list submitted by the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, which was a party in the alliance led by the UNP during the last general election.

Officiating over the resignation, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya confirmed to Parliament that he received the letter of resignation, which was handed over to the Secretary General of Parliament Dammika Dasanayake on 18 January.

Salman, who is an attorney by profession, was in the 8th Parliament for nearly two years where he was a member of the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Transport and Communication as well as the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Legal Affairs (anti-corruption) and Media. The vacant seat will soon be filled with a name proposed by the UNP as per the submission due from the SLMC. (AH)
