Higher salaries and allowances in the judicial sector from 01 January

Minister of Justice and Foreign Employment Thalatha Athukorala says steps will be taken to increase the salaries of all judges and officials of the Attorney General’s Department and the Legal Draftsman’s Department from 01 January, 2018.

The Government has taken this measure after taking into consideration a recommendation made by the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Legal Affairs (anti-corruption) and Media. The Government had decided to present a proposal to the Parliament to amend the salaries and allowances for judges, legal officers in the Attorney General’s Department and in the Legal Draftsman’s Department from 2018 after considering the enormous responsibility they bear – an issue that has long been discussed.
