Fifty-Five Government institutions that had achieved a high-performance level of compliance for the Financial Year 2018 (FY19) received Gold Awards from President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at a ceremony held on Friday (28 March) at the Parliamentary Complex.
Twenty-three institutions received Silver Awards for their performances for FY18 from Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
The awards were given on the recommendation of the Parliamentary Committee on Public Account (COPA) based on a computer networking system that elevates State, Provincial Councils, and Local Government-level institutions.
In 2018, 844 institutions of State, provincial councils and local government were evaluated, of which 109 were selected for awards.
The awards were presented under the categories of Government main expenditure units, government ministries, government departments, district secretariats, provincial council funds, provincial ministries, departments, special expenditure units, provincial authorities, municipal councils, urban councils, and provincial councils.
Under the category of main expenditure units of government, the Prime Minister's Office, Office of the Chief Government Whip of Parliament, and the Finance Commission won Gold Awards. From the Government Ministries, Ministry of Sports, and Ministry of Buddha Sasana received Gold Awards.
Department of Development Finance, Department of External Resources, Department of Management Audit, Department of National Planning, Department of Treasury Operations, Department of Legal Affairs, Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs, Department of Public Finance, Co-operative Employees Commission, Department of Buddhist Affairs, Department of Public Enterprises and Department of Social Services were the winners of the Gold Award in the ‘Government Departments’ category. The Jaffna District Secretariat and Kurunegala District Secretariat also received Gold Awards.
