Herath appointed to fill MP post left vacant by death of Salinda Dissanayake

The Election Commission has selected H.M.D.B. Herath to fill the vacancy left by the death of United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Member of Parliament Salinda Dissanayake.

In an Extraordinary Gazette issued yesterday by the Election Commission, Herath has been declared elected as a Member of the Eighth Parliament for the Electoral District No. 15 – Kurunegala to fill the vacancy caused by reason of death of Salinda Dissanayake.

Herath’s name was Gazetted as the candidate who obtained the next highest number of votes in the Kurunegala District at the 2015 General Election after the late MP Salinda Dissanayake.

Herath started his political career as a Member of the Pradeshiya Sabha and later became the Chairman of the Wariyapola Pradeshiya Sabha. Later he contested the North Western Provincial Council and was appointed as a Member of the Provincial Council and later the Provincial Minister of Agriculture and Health. He contested in the 2015 General Election from the UPFA.
