The COVID-19 health guidelines for Parliament, to enable the conduct of sessions in a safe environment when sittings commence after the 5 August General Elections, will be handed over to the Secretary General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake on Friday. A group of health officials representing the Ministry of Health, led by Deputy Director General-Health Services Dr. Laxman Gamlath, visited Parliament last week to assess the premises.

The health officials, who inspected various sections of Parliament, expressed satisfaction over the healthcare measures already taken by Parliament. Dr. Gamlath said special attention will be paid to the chamber, cafeteria, and the library of Parliament when compiling the healthcare guidelines.

These guidelines are being prepared by the Ministry of Health at the request of SG Dasanayake.

Parliament officials said all newly elected Members of Parliament will have to be present on the first day to take oaths and elect a new Speaker.
