The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has summoned the Public Security Ministry Secretary and the Inspector General of Police to inquire into the recurring violation of human rights by Policemen.
The HRCSL said the Secretary and the IGP have been summoned before the Commission on 21 November.
It also added that the human rights violations are being repeated through the arbitrary actions of Police officers adding that such actions threaten the structure of a democratic society and the rule of law.
The Human Rights Commission said it does not condone the actions of the Police who are assigned to protect and uphold the law.
The HRCSL added that measures that should be taken to prevent such situations will be discussed on 21 November.
