The Government has decided to conduct countrywide raids to identify individuals involved in human trafficking and to bring them to book.
The decision was reached at a discussion held between Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara, Public Security Minister Tiran Alles, Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, Sri Lanka Police, and senior officials of the Department of Immigration and Emigration yesterday.
Raids will be carried out continuously based on information received by the Foreign Employment Bureau pertaining to Lankans involved in human trafficking both domestically and overseas.
It was also decided to hold an officer-level progress review every two weeks of measures taken against individuals involved in human trafficking.
They have also agreed to implement a program to educate the public in relation to human trafficking.
