Provincial Councils and Local Government State Ministry had spent Rs. 1,435 million on 127 waste management projects last year, it has been revealed.
A total of Rs. 700 million had been allocated for Waste Management Centres in 2021 and 38 projects had been operational.
In addition, a mechanised compost yard program was implemented for the production of organic manure for local farming.
Under this project, the State Ministry took steps to direct local authorities to produce compost granular fertiliser to popularise quality compost fertiliser among the farmers. Accordingly, Rs. 735 million has been spent on 89 projects.
On the instructions of Provincial Councils and Local Government State Minister Roshan Ranasinghe, the Ministry’s National and Waste Management Assistance Centre had taken steps to further strengthen this project with the aim of providing non-toxic food to the people in line with the vision of the ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’ national policy framework.
