The Government has issued an Extraordinary Gazette notification, making it compulsory for public sector employees to retire by the age of 60 years.
As per the Gazette notification, the order does not apply to civil officers whose age of compulsory retirement is fixed by the Constitution or any other law, unless otherwise decided by a competent authority. The compulsory retirement age of State sector workers will come into effect from 1 January 2023.
The Gazette was issued by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena on Monday, in his capacity as the Public Administration, Home Affairs Provincial Council and Local Government Minister.
