The Government yesterday announced that all reports pertaining to the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) on the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks have been handed over to the Attorney General’s Department, whilst the PCoI reports have been tables in Parliament – except for certain sensitive data.

“The Attorney General’s Department and all law enforcement agencies are conducting investigations independently,” Cabinet Co-Spokesman and Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said in response to a question posed by journalists at the post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday, on the statement issued by Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith that the Attorney General’s Department and the Government are attempting to conceal the evidence presented by the PCoI.

“The President possesses only limited details pertaining to the attacks and those details have not been published due to the sensitive implications it might have on the national security. But all relevant details have been handed over to the Attorney General’s Department,” he explained.

Dr. Pathirana said neither the President nor the Government is intervening in these investigations in any capacity.
