Parliamentarian Prof. Charitha Herath says the Government is afraid to face an election.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday the MP said the political parties linked to the President and the current Government are clearly in fear of facing a poll.
“It is evident through their recent speeches,” Herath said, adding that a majority of the citizenry are now against the Government. According to him, this has given rise to political instability in the country.
“Even though an election is held on 9 March or not, there is a clear sign of a political change taking place in the country,” he said. The MP identified the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna and the Freedom People’s Alliance as key players in the current political field.
The MP also predicted that a political crisis is impending as the country’s economy continues in a downward spiral.
“The political crisis is entwined with the economic crisis,” he said, adding that this is the issue that must be addressed at this moment.
