Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in a condolence message to the people of Turkey has stated that under the stewardship of President Tayyip Erdogan and the Turkish Government and the resilience and strength of its people, the nation will rise from this tragedy even stronger than before.
He wrote his condolence message yesterday at the Turkey Embassy in Colombo and met the Turkey to Sri Lanka Ambassador Demet Sekercioglu.
In his message, former President Rajapaksa said: “I am deeply saddened by the recent tragic earthquakes in the Republic of Turkiye and the attendant loss of life, injuries, and devastation. I convey my heartfelt sympathies to those who have lost loved ones, and my thoughts are with those now engaging in rescue efforts and supporting those affected by this unprecedented natural disaster.”
Two major earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.8 and 7.5 had destroyed all buildings and killed over 21,000 thousands of people in the southern Turkey and northern Syria.
