The state doctors’ trade union, Government Medical Officers’ Association announced that it will launch district wise one-day token strikes from today to oppose the Presidential Committee appointed to look into the SAITM issue.
The GMOA said four-day district-wise token strikes will be held from tomorrow until Friday to protest the recommendations made by the committee headed by Deputy Minister Dr. Harsha de Silva.
The strikes are staged in support of a vehicle parade organized by the JanaPawura organization to protest against the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM). The vehicle parade will begin from Jaffna and Tissamaharama districts tomorrow (12) and reach Colombo on the 15th.
Accordingly, the GMOA will launch token strikes in Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Mullaitivu, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Polonnaruwa, Hambantota and Nuwara Eliya districts on Tuesday (12), in Vavuniya, Matale, Ampara, Badulla, Monaragala and Matara districts on Wednesday (13); in Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, Kandy, Ratnapura and Galle on the 14th and in Puttalam, Gampaha, Kegalle, Colombo and Kalutara on the 15th.
