  • Calls on trade union leaders to support successful conduct of the postponed examination

Department of Examinations yesterday announced that the 2021 GCE Ordinary Level Examinations will be held as planned later this month.

“No decision has been taken to postpone the O/L Exam thus far,” Department of Examinations Commissioner General L.M.D. Dharmasena said yesterday.

He assured that all preparations have been made to conduct the GCE Ordinary Level Examinations.

The 2021 GCE O/L Exam is scheduled to begin on 23 May.

The GCE Ordinary Level examination could not be held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 that had spread across the country.

He also said that discussions were held with Sri Lanka Police and Security authorities to ensure that the examination runs smoothly. This was discussed with all the Provincial and Zonal Directors of Education on Tuesday.

The Department of Examinations has requested the Post Master General to distribute the GCE (O/L) entrance admissions properly.

The applications will be available to children in the next few days, the Commissioner General said, adding that question papers will be distributed to the centres in the next couple of days. In this backdrop, the Commissioner General appealed to the trade union leaders, including the teachers’ principals in the field of education, to assist in every possible way to ensure the successful conduct of the postponed examination considering the future of the children.
