Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera yesterday asserted that the fuel quotas will remain unchanged for this week, whilst noting the National Fuel Pass QR system will be automatically updated.
“Fuel Quotas will be automatically updated at midnight today and it will remain the same for next week. After analysing data this week, necessary changes will be done where possible next Sunday,” Wijesekera opined via a tweet yesterday.
As per the data, over 5.5 million motorists have registered with the National Fuel Pass system. Separately, the Minister on Saturday announced that a committee was appointed last Friday to evaluate suitable companies to import, distribute and sell petroleum products.
“Objectives of the advertisement was briefed before they begin evaluation. Multiple companies will get to engage in the petroleum industry in Sri Lanka with CPC and LIOC,” he added.
Sri Lanka began its search for firms from petroleum-producing countries to engage in the importation, distribution, and retail activities, opening up the industry last month and the Ministry said it also arranged a pre-proposal conference for prospective firms which was scheduled to be held on 5 August through physical presence or Zoom e-conferencing platform.
