Free, fair and peaceful election reflects strength of democracy in Sri Lanka: President

  • 3 new envoys present credentials to President

President Maithripala Sirisena said the current free, fair and peaceful Presidential Election campaign reflects the strength of democracy in Sri Lanka. He said that this great democratic characteristic was restored due to the broad political transformation that had taken place in the country.

President Sirisena said this after accepting credentials from three new envoys to Sri Lanka at the President’s House in Colombo on Monday (4 November).

The envoys who presented credentials are: 

1. Ambassador of the Lebanese Republic Rabie Narsh

2. Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Maj. Gen Chris Eze and 

3. Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Union Denis Chaibi

While the High Commissioner of Nigeria and Ambassador of Lebanon are based in New Delhi, the EU Ambassador is based in Colombo. Minister of Foreign Affairs Tilak Marapana, Cabinet Secretary Sumith Abeysinghe and Additional Secretary Esala Weerakoon were also present on this occasion.
