The fourth person who was in intensive care after taking ill at a party in Wadduwa died yesterday, leaving unanswered questions on the cause of death of the individual.
The four men, aged between 19 and 36, were rushed to Panadura hospital on Sunday early morning after experiencing breathing difficulties and collapsing on the floor. The post-mortem of the deceased is yet to be concluded, the police said.
“Although post-mortem of two of the deceased was completed by the Panadura Judicial Medical Officer (JMO), the opinion has been withheld. Samples of organs from the deceased have been sent to a government analyst for further testing before concluding the cause of death,” Police Spokesperson SSP Ruwan Gunasekara told Daily FT.
The post-mortem of the other two people who died in the incident is yet to be conducted, he said.
The three people who died on Sunday have been identified as residents of Kesbewa and were 36, 31 and 20 years of age. The fourth among the deceased was a resident from the Pothuhera area and was 28 years old.
The party is said to have been organised by a private event management company via social media, with about 1500 people in attendance with tickets for the events, priced at Rs. 3000, sold at the entrance of the venue.
Police have already questioned 30 people over the incident and will continue investigations, SSP Gunasekara said.
“The Magistrate has already visited the location in question and the government analyst has been asked to visit the location for further investigation,” he said.
Hotel employees confirmed they had only provided the venue for the event and that the organisers had provided the other requirements to the attendees.
The police have identified the private event management company registered in the Kaduwela area which organised the event and is in the process of extracting information from them, SSP Gunasekara confirmed. (CD)
