Former Prisons Commissioner Emil Ranjan Lamahewa and Inspector of Police (IP) Neomal Rangajeewa were yesterday ordered to be further remanded in connection with the Welikada prison riot.
Emil Ranjan and Neomal Rangajeewa were produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court which ordered that they be remanded until 8 May.
Ranjan and Rangajeewa had been arrested over the 2012 Welikada Prison clashes in which several inmates were killed.
Investigators are attempting to uncover who gave the orders to kill the inmates during the riot. (Colombo Gazette)
