The country’s COVID-19 fatalities yesterday rose to 507 with the confirmation of five COVID-19 deaths.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, a 59-year-old individual from Ja-Ela tested positive for COVID-19 at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka and was admitted to the Homagama Base Hospital. However, she died of COVID pneumonia yesterday.
A 51-year-old individual from Dharga Town tested positive for COVID-19 at a private hospital in Colombo and was admitted to the Kotelawala Defence University Medical Faculty Hospital, where she died of COVID pneumonia and multi-organ dysfunction yesterday.
On Sunday, an individual from Colombo 6 died while receiving treatment at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, where he was admitted after testing positive for COVID-19 at a private hospital in Colombo. The cause of death is cited as trauma of blood poisoning, acute kidney damage, COVID pneumonia, and acute diabetes. He was 78 years old. The previous day, an individual from Hemmathagama died of COVID pneumonia and a brain tumour while receiving treatment at the Kandy General Hospital. The individual was 19 years old.
On 20 February, a 72-year-old individual from Anuradhapura died while receiving treatment at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital. The cause of death was cited as COVID pneumonia, asthma, high blood pressure, and acute diabetes.
