Multiple fires broke out at the Meethotamulla garbage dump yesterday, the fire brigade revealed.
In the morning the first fire was brought under control and later there was re-ignition in the day with fire-fighters battling the flames for hours.
The fire brigade said that fire engines were deployed to the location to extinguish the flames.
Last November a fire broke out at the dump and it had to be extinguished by the fire brigade with the assistance of the Army and Police. The fire was reported to have been ignited by methane gas in the dump. In March last year a similar fire erupted at the dump.
