Sri Lanka will mark ‘World Environment Day 2018’, which falls tomorrow, with a national ceremony at Independence Avenue, Kegalle today with President Maithripala Sirisena attending as the Chief Guest.
This year the theme for World Environment Day is ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’, which calls for people to come together to combat one of the great environmental challenges.
The Government has declared an ‘Environment Week’ from today and during the week the Central Environment Authority (CEA) has taken measures to regulate polythene and plastic waste disposal while raising awareness among the public, CEA Chairman Chandrarathne Pallegama said.
