Energy Minister calls on public not to interrupt fuel distribution

  • Says if organised groups threaten bowser drivers, distribution will be suspended

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera yesterday said if organised groups continue to block movement and threaten to set fire to fuel trucks, the distribution will be suspended. 

“It has been reported that organised groups are preventing fuel trucks to pass certain areas demanding they be unloaded at different fuel stations and threatening to set fire to them. If this continues, we will have to suspend deliveries for the safety of the transport work force,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, the Minister Wijesekara announced that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has suspended license of four fuel stations for hoarding stocks.

Taking to Twitter the he said the licenses were suspended last night for holding stocks without distributing and dispensing to cans and barrels disregarding guidelines and regulations.

Minister Wijesekera said the temporary permits granted to Police fuel stations to sell fuel to other vehicles has also been revoked.
