The committee appointed to prepare a new draft bill titled the ‘National Security Act’ which is expected to replace the controversial Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) has handed over its draft to Justice Minister Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe. The handover took place yesterday morning at the Ministry premises.
The Minister appointed an expert committee led by Additional Solicitor General Nerin Pulle and Nalinda Indatissa PC with the aims of repealing the Prevention of Terrorism Act and drafting a National Security Act to strengthen the country’s national security.
The draft was handed over to the Minister by Attorney General Sanjay Rajaratnam. The event was also attended by Ministry of Justice Secretary Vasantha Perera, Additional Legal Draftsman of the Legal Draftsman’s Department D.D. Kulasena, Ministry of Justice Senior Assistant Secretary Hiranya Perera and other staffers of the Ministry of Justice.
