A Symposium on Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act Reports discussed President’s Counsel Faiz Mustapha’s MMDA reports, and Retired Justice Saleem Marsoof’s MMDA reports. This was held at Hotel Marine Drive Wellawatte on 20 October, organised by Colombo District Mosque Federation.
It was held to reach a consensus on the differences of view that prevail in the Report. The Symposium focused on the contentious issues in the Report. The participants were invited from among the cross section of the Muslim community comprising Ulemas, and Mosque Trustee Board. A fruitful discussion took place among the 150 Mosque Trustees from all parts of the country. A certain consensus was reached over the differences that prevailed in the said Report. The program was organised by the Colombo District Mosque Federation President Aslam Odman, Vice President S.L.M. Ismath and As-Shiek Irfan Mubeen.
Finally All Ceylon Mosque Federation unanimously decided to support the Committee report of MMDA compiled by the Committee led by President’s Counsel Faiz Mustapha. A resolution was passed and it was decided to convey their decision to the Ministry of Justice.
