Dialog Axiata PLC, Sri Lanka’s premier connectivity provider, in partnership with the Ministry of Defence, Sri Lanka Army, and Disaster Management Centre, began fund disbursement activities for those affected by flooding in the Northern Province, as part of the Senehe Siyapatha 2018/2019.
Launched in 2016 and continued in 2017, the Senehe Siyapatha fund has been utilised to aid those affected by natural disasters and consist of customer donations via SMS, Star Points and eZ Cash, with each donation being tripled by Dialog. The 2018/2019 instalment of the project aims to assist families affected by flooding in the North and in line with this, a total of 15,100 school bags and stationary kits are to be distributed to children in affected families. To begin distribution efforts, 1,140 kits were disbursed to students in Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu (838 students from Dharmapuram Central College in Kilinochchi and 302 students from Suthanthirapuram Maha Vidyalaya in Mullaitivu) on 7 January 2019, in the presence of senior officials from all parties.
To donate via SMS, Dialog customers are required to type DON and SMS to 7700. Each SMS will contribute Rs. 50 toward the cause with Dialog tripling customer donations by adding Rs. 100, contributing a total of Rs. 150 toward flood relief efforts. Subscribers may also donate any amount via Star Points by dialling #141*5*7# or via eZ Cash using the eZ Cash mobile app or by dialing #111*6#, entering their PIN, entering ‘1’, entering ‘DON’, entering 1234 as the account number and entering the amount they would like to donate and confirming.
Etisalat and Hutch customers may also contribute to this program through eZ Cash. Donations made via these channels will be tripled by Dialog. Additionally, Sri Lankans living abroad may also donate via eZ Cash by visiting www.worldremit.com and entering the donation amount and confirming.
The disbursement of funds and related activities will be independently audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers.
