The Fort Magistrate Court yesterday issued an Order calling on former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen to appear before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at 9 am on 27 July. The Court issued the Order following a request by the CID, who are investigating the Easter Sunday bombings, the Police Media Unit said.

According to the Police, Bathiudeen is sought to record a statement regarding the ongoing investigations and had been requested to appear before the CID twice. The CID had made the request from the Fort Magistrate Courts as Bathiudeen had not appeared to make a statement. The Magistrate has issued a summons for the former Parliamentarian to appear before the CID on 27 July, the Police said.

The Court Order comes days after the Election Commission wrote to the acting IGP requesting the suspension of summons for former parliamentarians Rishad Bathiudeen and Ravi Karunanayake over the Easter Sunday bombings and the Central Bank bond scam investigations until the General Elections are over.
