Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has said that he will never allow the country to become anarchic and is ready to work with decisions taken to maintain political stability in the country.
The Prime Minister made these remarks when he met a group of Maha Sangha led by Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha Thero at Temple Trees earlier this week.
Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha Thero briefed Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on the letter issued by the Chief Prelates.
The Maha Sangha expressed their views on the formation of an interim Government at the meeting, the Prime Minister’s Office said.
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa told the Maha Sangha that if it was necessary to form an interim Government, the Maha Nayaka Thera’s should seek the consent of the main religious leaders and all party leaders.
Prime Minister Rajapaksa emphasised that political stability is important for the recovery of the country’s economy and therefore, he would never allow the country to become anarchic at any time.
Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha Thero, Ven. Agalakada Sirisumana Thero, Ven. Rajawatte Vappa Thero, Ven. Pahiyangala Ananda Sagara Thero and other members of the Maha Sangha were present on this occasion.
