Court of Appeal yesterday issued summons to Northern Province Chief Minister C. V. Wigneswaran as well as Provincial Ministers Ananthi Sasitharan and K. Sivanesan to appear before Court on 7 September to answer the Contempt of Court complaint levelled against them by B. Deniswaran.
The Bench comprised Justices Kumudini Wickramasinghe and Janak De Silva.
B. Deniswaran complained to the Court about alleged non-abiding with the Interim Order of the Court of Appeal in respect to the purported removal of him from his post of Minister.
Suren Feranando appeared for the complainant.
Chief Minister Wigneswaran had removed Deniswaran from the post of Minister, and the portfolios held by him were distributed amongst other respondent Ministers.
The Court of Appeal had granted the Interim Orders as requested for by Deniswaran (1) restraining the Respondents from interfering with and/or prohibiting and/or preventing Deniswaran from functioning as the Minister; and (2) suspending the portfolios which had been allocated to others other than him.
