Construction of dual flyovers in Colombo will be completed on time: Johnston

Highways Minister Johnston Fernando said this week that construction work on the first phase of the double-flyover planned at Justice Akbar Mawatha and Uttarananda Mawatha to ease the traffic congestion in Colombo would be completed by the due date.

Fernando said he was instructed by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to work around the clock and complete the dual flyover by June this year.

The flyover on Judge Akbar Mawatha is 207 metres long and 8.4 metres wide. The flyover on Uttarananda Mawatha is 396 metres long. Its width is 10.4 metres. The length of the flyover that will be constructed to connect the two flyovers is 310 metres. Its width is 6.9 metres. The flyovers will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 5.2 billion. 

Transportation of the concrete structures required to complete the work on the upper part of the double flyovers commenced on Monday.
