The Institute of National Security Study Sri Lanka (INSSSL), the premier national security think tank operating under the Ministry of Defence, jointly with the Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation, will be holding a one-day conference on the theme of ‘Role of Youth in Reconciliation’ on 12 December from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Colombo 07.
Promoting reconciliation and peace-building is an inherent component of sustaining peace in post conflict societies. This is true to Sri Lanka as well, where the war affected communities of the island are striving to live in unity whilst preserving their identity. Exploring the role that the youth could play in reconciliation initiatives and providing them a platform to voice their ideas and grievances could lay the foundation to improving the existing reconciliation mechanisms as well as initiating new ones to address the related challenges.
Minister of National Integration A.H.M. Fowzie will grace the event as the Chief Guest and Secretary of Defence Kapila Waidyaratne PC will be the Guest of Honour.
The Minister will deliver the keynote address at the conference which will be attended by a wide range of participants including state and military officials, members of the diplomatic community, representatives of youth and civilian organisations, academics and students from Sri Lanka and abroad.
