Committee studying proposed MCC agreement calls for public views

The Committee appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers to study the US Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) development assistance grant agreement has decided to seek public views about the agreement.

The $ 480 million grant under the MCC Agreement was proposed to utilise to upgrade the transportation infrastructure and improve land management, covering the entire country.

The Cabinet of Ministers appointed the Committee on a proposal from Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to comprehensively study the MCC grant agreement and report to the Government.Accordingly an individual, organisation or an association can submit their views or evaluations to the Committee before February 15. The observations can be sent to the Chairman, Committee Appointed to Study the MCC Agreement, Nelumpiyasa, Temple Trees, Colombo 3. They can also be sent to [email protected]. If the Committee determines that there is a need for further consultation, they will get the opportunity to express their views before the Committee. Therefore, the Committee requests those who are submitting their views and proposals to send their telephone numbers, postal addresses and the email. The Special Committee is headed by Professor Lalithsiri Gunaruwan of the University of Colombo and comprises former Secretary to the Ministry of Transport DS Jayaweera, President’s Counsel Nihal Jayawardena and Architect Nalaka Jayaweera as members.
