  • 33 students returned from Wuhan show no sign of illness
  • No new cases reported in past 48 hours

While the Chinese national detected to be afflicted with coronavirus in Sri Lanka has made a full recovery, none of the 33 Sri Lankan students who arrived in the country on Saturday from the Wuhan province of China are showing any symptoms of the illness.

Director General of Health Services Lakshman Gamlath said that fluid samples of the Chinese tourist have been sent to the Medical Research Institute (MRI) and once the results confirm she is free of the virus, the woman will be discharged from hospital.

He added that none of the 33 students who returned from Wuhan and are under quarantine in Diyathalawa have shown any symptoms of the illness.

“We are keeping a close watch on the students, and if within 13 days they show no symptoms, they will be handed over to their relatives,” Dr. Gamlath said.

He added that no new patients have been reported from anywhere else in the country within the past 48 hours, and appealed to people not to harbour unnecessary fears of getting infected.
