The latest gesture of goodwill from China was demonstrated yesterday when 10.6 million litres (9,000 tons) of diesel was received free of charge at the Colombo port.
“Oil tanker “Super Eastern” carrying the diesel consignment berthed at the Colombo port. This diesel consignment will be distributed among farmers and fishermen in remote areas of the country to upgrade the livelihood of the most-affected sectors of agriculture and fishery.
The Chinese Embassy said an estimated 232,749 farmers harvesting 342,266 hectares paddy fields across Sri Lanka during the Maha season and 3,796 fishing vessels below 40 feet will benefit from the donation.
