Officers from the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) yesterday morning arrested a Chief Inspector (CI) of Police in Akkaraipattu, in Ampara on charges that he concealed evidence linked to the explosion at a residence in Sainthamaruthu in April 2019.
15 persons, including six children and three women, were found dead after the blast that erupted at a house in a housing scheme called ‘Bolivia Village’ which has more than 400 house. Among the dead were family and followers the Easter Sunday bombings mastermind Zahran Hashim.
The wife and a daughter of Zahran Hashim were injured in the blast and were treated for injuries. The group detonated an explosives device after a shootout erupted due to a combined operation by the Army and Police to corner the suspects linked to the bombings.
According to the Police Media Unit, the CI has been detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act and will be brought to Colombo for questioning by the CCD.
