Megapolis and Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka yesterday claimed that that Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna had only got 40% of votes in the Local Government election polls, not 44.65% as claimed.

Insisting that calculations so far have been wrong, Ranawaka in a statement said that  former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s proxy party got less votes compared to the cumulative  total of all parties led by President Maithripala Sirisena, who secured 42% of the votes in the  recent LG polls. Furthermore, he stated that this was less than the 51% received by the common candidate in 2015.  According to the statement, the United National Party got 29.4% votes while the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and United People’s Freedom Alliance in total got 12.38% while the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna got 5.8%.
