Former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal last week met with Senator James Inhofe in Washington D.C, where both men engaged in a broad dialogue on future Sri Lanka-US relations and investment opportunities.
Senator Inhofe is a senior Republican Senator from Oklahoma and is the current Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee. He was previously the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.
In 2014, Senator Inhofe was the lead Senator who introduced Senate Resolution No. 364, signed by 24 senators on 27 February 2014, expressing “support for the internal rebuilding, resettlement and reconciliation within Sri Lanka” that “will need to be driven by the people of Sri Lanka themselves”.
The Senate Resolution also called upon the US Government to assist the Sri Lankan Government to “establish domestic mechanisms” to “deal with any grievances”.
