The Cabinet yesterday approved plans to enter in to a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of India, to obtain grants for the implementation of community-based development projects with benefits for vulnerable groups.
The new MoU on grants for small scale development projects which will see the continuation of financial grants awarded by India to Sri Lanka since 2005 and is expected to bring higher benefits to the communities where they are implemented, Cabinet Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said yesterday.
The Government of India has given their consent to award the same financial cooperation to Sri Lanka to implement community-based development projects with higher benefits for the next five years (2020 – 2025).
The Cabinet of Ministers have given their consent to the proposal submitted by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Minister of Finance to enter into a new MoU with the Indian Government. Since 2005, a number of projects related to the development of infrastructure facilities in the fields of Education, Health and Community Development have been implemented at national and local Government levels as well as by non-governmental organisations.
